We all have dreams. Sleeping seems to be the most common thing in the whole world. However, dreaming can be a whole different experience to each of us. Everybody dreams. The thing is what is that you dream about. Mostly, people tend to dream things that are in their subconscious. Things that are maybe not finished something that you started talking about and left in the middle or perhaps something that just crossed your mind a few seconds.
Why do we dream? What happens when we are dreaming? This list will tell you a few facts you may not know about dreaming that will help you to understand them a bit better.
Did you know that we forget the 90% of our dreams?
Google.
Between 5 and 15 minutes after you wake up from your dream you forget almost everything. How many times did you wake up all excited trying to tell somebody else everything you dreamed about and couldn't say a word? I mean, in your head, there was a whole world that you are forgetting minute by minute. Stressing, right?
Blind dreams
Google.
If you were blind your whole life other senses as smelling, hearing and touching start to play an important role in your dreams. However, if you saw some images after being born you will also see them in your dreams. Can you imagine dreaming in black? No images, just different smells and textures…Weird, right?
Everybody dreams
Google.
Even though you don't remember each of your dreams you always dream and everybody always dream too. The fact is that we tend to forget our dreams really quickly which makes us also forget that we actually dreamed something.
We just see known faces in our dreams
Google.
Just think of a face that you didn't know before a dream and appeared in one of them. You can't, right? That´s because we dream about faces that we already know or have seen somewhere. Our unconscious can't invent a whole new face but can remember one that we have already seen.
Some people dream in black and white
Google.
I personally thought this only happened to dogs, however studies that some people actually does dream with no color. This has to do with the means of communication being black and white. After this, around 1950 things changed and people started dreaming in colors.
Negative emotions are the most dominating ones in dreams.
Google.
Our head tends to feel more negative than positive when it comes to dreams. Didn’t you realize that nightmares are the dreams you remember the most? They leave you something. Either e message or just a feeling that stays there which rarely happens with sweet dreams.
Animals dream too
Google.
Studies have been made on animals and yes people, they dream too. Have you ever seen your little dog trembling or making funny faces while he was sleeping? Well, that’s because they are actually dreaming.
Body paralysis
Google.
Did you know that while you’re dreaming, your body paralyses so that it does not copy your dream movements? However, this apparently doesn’t happen the same way to dogs as you can watch them move their whole body and face while dreaming.
Incorporation
Google.
Sounds always incorporate to our dreams. For example, whenever you leave your TV on and maybe the news is saying that there’s a missing person. You in your dream can possibly think that that missing person is you and can even be mixed with a bunch of other ideas. Interesting and a little scary too, right?
Men and woman dream differently
Google.
Did you know that men tend to dream more about other men than women’s? They also tend to feel more aggressive emotions than women. This surprised me, I thought only gay men dreamed more about other men but apparently that didn’t have nothing to do with it.
Different smells also influence dreams
Google.
Whatever you have around you influence your dreams. For example, if your room is dirty with bad smells, your dreams might possibly relate to that, giving you negative energy. This is because your brains associate dirtiness to negativity and everything gets mixed up.
Universal dreams
Google.
There are some personal dreams which are the majority. However, there are some of them that are just for everyone. Dreams where we are chased, attacked, when we fall into the void, when we found ourselves naked in public or even dreams where we are immobile are recurrent topics.
Body’s reaction as if you were awake
Google.
Whatever you experienced in your dreams you also lived it with your own body. So this is why if you were tired, scared or even stressed out in your dream, you’ll wake up feeling the same way. It’s the same body who is experiencing everything.
Dreaming control
Google.
Half of the population remembers controlling their dream at least once. I personally can’t think of this as a possibility. I mean, dreams just happen in your head I don’t know how could you control where that dream is going. It’s a little like dreaming awake. There are people who give trainings to make this happen.
Nightmares with an origin
Google.
When we are not going through good times, fighting with your couple, work issues and family preoccupations these ones are the main character of our lives. NIGHTMARES. Yes, the worst feeling on earth. It’s not enough to be feeling miserable in real life that your head makes you feel bad in dreams also. Thanks for that, head!
Dreams are symbolic
Google.
Dreams talk in a deep symbolic language. If you are constantly dreaming about a particular thing, that has probably nothing to do with that thing. I mean, is not that superficial. They have a deeper meaning and different ways of representing something.
You can have between 4 and 7 dreams a night
Google.
In average, you can dream between 1 and 2 hours in a row per night and in that time, you can have between 4 and 7 dreams. It’s weird because I’ve always thought that I dreamed one thing and that was too long to last all night.
Future dreams
Google.
A lot of people affirm that they dreamed about something that happened after they have dreamed it. As if they were reading the future with their dreams or maybe having some kind of premonition.
If you snore you can’t dream
Google.
Even though there are no studies showing this. A lot of specialists say that anyone who snores can’t dream. They have something that prevent them from relaxing completely and entering the stage of sleep where you dream. That’s why they can’t take it to the other level.
You can’t read or know the time while dreaming
Google.
If you can’t distinguish between being awake and in a dream just try to read the time. You’ll see that if your dreaming, it is impossible. You can’t distinguish time in a dream, because you can’t read it. I can’t imagine how somebody could be in a place where they can’t distinguish real life from dreaming. However, it’s an interesting fact.
