We all love romantic movies… the overall knowledge that despite the drama and obstacles love conquers all is a great feeling. The Notebook is one of those love stories that everyone knows and mostly everyone loves. I mean Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are the main characters and their performances are brilliant and drew everyone into the fantastic story.
As this is one of the ultimate chick flicks and romantic movies around, fans probably think they know everything about the movie, but do you? Here we are going to share some cool facts that you probably didn’t know! Watching it 100 times doesn’t mean you know all about it! Does it? Well, here you’ll figure it out.
There are tastes for all
Google.
Apparently, the movie’s director choose Ryan as he thought that he was not like any other Hollywood guy. “He wasn’t cute, he looks like a normal kid that looks a little too crazy”. It's funny how Nick Cassavetes thought Ryan wasn't cute at all. You were so wrong!
Google.
Sure, he was younger, but he is known now for being one of the leading Hollywood heartthrobs. It's even rumored he has turned down the title of "Sexiest Man Alive" several times - Ryan claims he's just not in for it and that he'd rather be recognized by his talent.
Eye contacts
Google.
Ryan had to wear brown eye contacts during the shooting of the movie. The reason? The actor that played adult Noah had brown eyes! Interesting…please Ryan don’t hide your beautiful blue eyes anymore. Right girls?
You are perfect!
Google.
Ryan Gosling confessed after making the film that at points, he didn’t feel comfortable with the part. He thought he was not the right one to be the main character of the romantic movie. He couldn't be more wrong about that.
Not good at all…
Google.
Rachel McAdam’s and Ryan Gosling dated on and off for some time after the filiming of the movie... but did you know that, during the shooting they couldn't stand each other? The director claims Ryan wanted Rachel out, saying they had no chemistry whatsoever. It all escalated until an epic screaming match happened, which made things better.
Improvisation people!
Google.
Ryan Gosling improvised the iconic line at the end of the film. When Noah confronts Allie and forces her to realize what she really wants, shouting, "What do you want! What do you want?" - The line was not originally in the movie script.
Point for the director!
Google.
In this famous scene, would you believe us if we tell you that there were not these many ducks originally? Well, the story goes like this: apparently, the script described the scene as you are seeing it. However, the production department said that getting all those ducks and making them stay for the whole scene shoot wouldn’t be possible. Then, here is when the director appears in the picture. As he wanted the scene to be just like he imagined, he found some little ducks and raised them just next to that lake. So, when the shooting time arrived, they felt so comfortable there that they decided to stay. Voilà!
Britney and Justin
Google.
You won’t believe this but guess what? They were considering them to be the main characters of this movie! OMG, I can’t picture Britney and Justin at all! Can you?
Cinematography’s magic!
Google.
The film was filmed in the opposite direction. All the "older" Allie and Noah scenes (played by Rachel and Ryan) were filmed first. Then, he had to lose 10 kilos of muscle during his Christmas holidays and shave his beard to become the young Noah. SOO CUTE!
No shoes for you lady!
Google.
Rachel was not wearing shoes during the rain scene. Do you know why? Well, they disintegrated with the water as they were originally from the 1940’s.
She was not happy
Google.
Rachel said that the crew was splashing too much water during the filming of the scene, making her eyes hurt. She was not just playing the part, that face really reflects the suffering haha.
So wrong!
Google.
James Marsden - who played Allie's fiancé, Lon Hammond, thought the movie was going to be bad. "I thought" The Notebook "was going to be a very sentimental movie that was only going to last in theaters a week," James admitted. I can’t believe how wrong he was!
Talented Rachel!
Google.
Rachel McAdams had less than a day to prepare for her audition. She received the script for the movie the night before her audition when she was at the premiere of another movie. She was already working at that time! But her incredible audition was what assured her the participation in this great movie.
It all stays in the family!
Google.
The actress who plays senior Allie Colhoun (Gena Rowlands) is Nick Cassavetes (the director’s) mom! He, of course, is John Cassavetes son.
Proud director
Google.
Nick said he was proud of taking the decision of not filming any naked scene. He wanted little children to be able to watch the movie too without having to see anything they shouldn’t.
Success
Google.
"The Notebook" is one of Ryan's most successful movies. Even though the movie came out in 2005 and he has made great blockbuster movies like "La La Land" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love" with Emma Stone, his most successful financial film is still "The Notebook", raising $ 105 million, by adjusting for inflation.
The book that inspired it all
Google.
The story is based on Nicholas Spark’s book The Notebook - it was his first published novel! Pretty weird, right? I mean, it had a lot of success to be the first story he published. He went on to become a best-selling author and to publish many other great books that were later turned into movies... some of them even before this one.
Big coincidence!
Google.
Ryan and Rachel are both Canadian and as a quirky fact, they are both from the same town. They were even both born in the same hospital in London, Ontario. Somehow they were meant to meet each other.
Google.
After all, and despite their rocky start while the filming of the movie, they fell in love and dated for three years and a half. How crazy is love sometimes, right?
Crazy fans!
Google.
After they broke up, a fan of the movie yelled at Mr. Gosling blaming him for the separation. They have both stated they decided to part ways because they realized they weren't each other's soulmantes, but they remain good friends.
