A full 27 years after Tim Curry terrified audiences as Pennywise the clown, a new generation is being introduced to him – or “It”. Here’s what we know about the 2017 remake. We’re going to share some interesting secrets you didn’t know! Behind the scenes details, Andy Muschietti’s obsessions as well as the famous face hidden behind “It”.
“Because there is something in the core of this monster that we want to capture Its ability, so we do different things and different behaviors and different takes that might amount to something unique when we put the scene together,” Muschietti said.
1. What a talent Bill!
Director Andy Muschieti wanted Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise) to be cross-eyed in some parts of the movie.
Surprisingly, the actor showed he could really cross his eyes in real life which made the production save a lot of money.
2. Working with children in a movie is not an easy job!
Muschieti, organized a bike camp to teach his leading actors how to ride.
He said it was the best way to build trust between them.
3. “In one of the scenes one of them was about to vomit” - Andy declared.
Bill Skarsgard was completely isolated the first part of the shooting. The director wanted the children of the cast to be really scared, so he had purposefully keep Skarsgard separate from “The Losers Club” until after their first on-camera encounter.
Clearly Andy fulfilled his mission.
4. The cliff scene where the children play to see who could spit further was not planned at all.
It was supposed to be much more dramatic and introspective until the director realized it was a little bit boring, so he improvised the whole scene on set.
Did you think this could be possible in Hollywood? I don’t think so...
5. In one of the most intense scenes, Bill Skargard was afraid that he was traumatizing one of the kid actors.
When the director said “cut”, the kid was like “wow dude that was awesome I love how you did that, great job!”
Bill couldn’t believe it.
6. I bet you didn’t know Pennywise was actually this handsome in real life!
He is the man hiding behind the creepy clown.
7. Was Richie Tozier’s face familiar to you and you couldn’t tell why?
Fin Wolfhard’s already had a role in Stranger Things!
8. Perhaps you forgot it but look how different old Pennywise was from the new one!
“There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume,” Janie Bryant (costume de- signer) says. “The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element” “It gives the character a child-like quality.” “Even the gloves are so tight and seamless they make his hands look like porcelain”.
"Pennywise Skarsgard has a much more sinister edge, marked by piercing yellow eyes and contorted movements, the two Pennywise also have very different personalities" [says Muschietti].
9. Everything stays in the family!
Did you know that Barbara Muschietti (Andy’s sister) is one the main producers of the movie?
Their faces can't even hide it!
10. If you thought that Andy Muschietti wasn’t perfectionist enough. Check this out!
In an interview at Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires he declared “I used to draw each shot before arriving on set”
“When the long working day was done I slept only three hours per night and stayed up late drawing and drawing...”
11. “It” will likely have a second part!
The “It” mini-series was split into two parts with the first half primarily focusing on the “loser’s club” as kids, and the second one reuniting them as adults.
The filmmakers behind the movie have a similar formula in mind due to the movie’s success all over the world.
