Classic mom sayings

Do you recall all those times you had to ask your mom for permission to go to a party? Well, if you have an easygoing mom, you probably didn’t hear this very often. But those of us with authoritative mothers certainly did!  The worst thing is, no matter what great excuse we had to go to the party, her response was always the same.

Most of the time our moms refused to give in, we just hated it! Maybe you were arguing about house chores, school grades, or sleepovers at your friend’s house, but in the end, she would always say “Someday you will thank me for this”. To this day, we’re still thinking how most of the times, she was actually right.

It doesn’t matter if you were a well-behaved child or a naughty one. At some point, you did something that made your mom really upset. Listening to “I'm going to give you until the count of three, 1..2…” was definitely frightening and you knew you had to stop whatever you were doing.

How many times did you listen to that small reminder? Especially during our teenage years, when all we cared about was hanging out with our friends, doing whatever we wanted. Unfortunately, we did live in the same house, so we had to accept any of her rules.

Our mothers probably always expected the best from us. Unfortunately, whenever they found out about something we had done wrong, it was always the same look on her face while she said: “No child of mine would do something like that”. And we couldn’t help thinking “Oh mom, if only you knew…”.

Remember those spring-time days in which summer felt like it was just around the corner? Well, our moms still though it was kind of cold so they always said to us “Put a sweater on, or you’ll catch a cold”.

We have all been there, especially during our high-school years, we feel like we are old enough to make our own decisions but we are not eighteen yet so we are constantly arguing with our mothers; listening to our moms say “Who died and left you boss?” was very common.

If you were the oldest sibling then you will definitely relate to this. Remember when your younger siblings were making a mess around the house? And then, when your mom came home she always told you to clean it up? YES! It was very unfair.

When we had done something naughty and our moms didn’t feel like giving a 3-hour lecture on what not to do, they simply said: “Your father is going to hear about this when he gets home”.

Maybe you only listened to this saying when you were really young, but if you were a curious child you were probably used to it.  Who couldn’t help grabbing something that caught our eye while walking on the street?

Whenever we wanted to ask for a bit of extra money to go to the movies, or buy some clothes, we always asked our moms; and sadly most of the time their response was the same: “Money does not grow on trees”

We love our moms to death! There’s no doubt about it. Unfortunately, sometimes we might have said something inappropriate that hurt their feelings, so listening to this saying tore our hearts apart.

If you are a clean and organized person, you probably didn’t listen to this very often; but, whenever our rooms were a mess they always reminded us that no one was going to pick up those socks for us (especially not her).

If you were the type of kid who would always question your mom’s decisions, then you are probably used to this. We're sorry to say this but… she was actually right, she did not ask for your opinion.

If you are a girl, it is nearly impossible not to have heard this. We just can’t help it, we love clothes and hmm no, we’ll never have enough clothes. Sorry mom…

Oh yeah, we remember those days in which we had to finish that hideous broccoli just to get to the dessert. Our lovely moms were just looking after ourselves, who could blame them?

No, pretending you can’t listen to her only makes it worse. Although we have to admit that the look on her face is priceless!

All of those naughty children who refused to clean up their rooms always listened to their moms say this. Having an old turkey sandwich underneath the bed is kind of disgusting so… sorry, your mom was completely right.
