Procrastination, big and long word, right? Well, if you are a big procrastinator I think there might be some things you should know to overcome it. As the time goes on and on, lots of things are finishing: work, studies etc. This means there are also things starting as well, or maybe things you want to start.
To do that, procrastination is not a good friend. You need to leave it behind so you can fail or succeed. You will never succeed if you don’t even try because of fear. Fear, only paralyze us, it’s our worst enemy. Here are some handy tips that will allow you to effectively move forward and achieve your goals.
Try to understand the cause
Google.
Think of the things that distracts your attention, perhaps it’s your head trying to get everything done at the same time. that happens very often. In that case, you should try to separate things and one thing at a time.
Make a list of things to do
Google.
It can sound silly or even too simple to solve the problem. However, it’s one of the most effective tools to organize yourself. Start with things you think you can achieve. That, will give you confidence to get everything else done without stressing yourself out.
Think of your goals and picture yourself achieving them
Google.
Rethink your final goals, and remember why you are doing it. If you forget them, everything ends up making no sense at all, that is why we mostly start procrastinating. We forget our final goals and get stressed and sad because of not achieving them. So, the thing is, what are you trying to achieve? And then you think, well, how can I achieve that? In that order, nothing can end up wrong!
Environment
Google.
This is one of the most important things while working. Another thing that can sound silly as the list. However, it is definitely not a silly thing. Just think of it: our environment is the physical place where we create things. How can we create if the place where we are doesn’t inspire us sufficiently? Well, should compare it to clothes for example. Something that is completely attached to feelings. A place that inspires you, helps you create better and most interesting things.
Don’t overwhelm yourself
Google.
This title speaks for itself. If you try to overcome procrastination scheduling each hour of the day with work, you will not do your best at all. It will happen exactly the opposite thing. You’ll get overwhelmed with everything without even achieving one thing. You should instead, work half of your day and keep the other half free. Well, at least to start…
Stop your head from thinking in unachievable goals
Google.
When you are starting a project or something in particular and can’t stop thinking of where would you be in the end of the process you’ll miss the path. To achieve a big goal, you first need to overcome lots of small obstacles, if you don’t do that, getting to the end will be no easy task. Is like trying to win a race, starting from the end. It doesn’t make any sense, does it?
Short breaks
Google.
It’s perfect to make short breaks so that your head doesn’t get too tired. You need to think the best ways to take advantage of your head when its 100% working. However, there must be an estimated time of your breaks before starting them. This is because sometimes those short breaks turn into endless recesses that end up being your procrastination.
Help yourself
Google.
Don’t make procrastination a problem that needs more procrastination to solve it. Let me explain myself. When you ask for help because you don’t know how to overcome procrastination, sometimes what you are doing is just postponing your goals. You sometimes, need to solve your problems yourself, sit down and start trying to achieve your goals. When you do that, it will feel so much better! I can definitely assure that!
Don’t be too hard on yourself
Google.
If you mess up.... Don’t be too hard on yourself, don’t get too sad. It will not help you at all. That will prevent you from fixing the problem and start over with a cleaner head.
Reward progress
Google.
If you achieved lots of goals. You should be proud of yourself. Reward progress and don’t feel like is just something that was supposed to happen. Do something that makes you happy so that you feel that all that effort is worth it.
Be ready to overcome obstacles
Google.
If you are afraid of falling again in procrastination’s hands. Just makes another list with things that can possibly make you fall. Then, you’ll be ready to overcome any of those problems in advance.
Don’t be afraid of sharing
Google.
If you are not entirely sure of what you are doing, why not show it to someone else? That will help you look at your work from other perspectives and not staying in your own thoughts.
Change your work space
Pinterest.
Sometimes to clear your head and work on some new ideas you also need to change your everyday work space. In my case, having breakfast somewhere else keeps my mind from stagnancy.
Routine
Google.
It doesn’t have to be a rigid routine; it can change every day. However, having it helps your mental constancy. Sometimes you need it to keep on going. Constancy is one of the most important things for success and one of the things that first makes us fail.
Comparison
Google.
Don’t compare yourself to the rest. It’s perfect to admire other people but instead of being jealous, why not looking up how did they achieve their goals? Or maybe first looking up what their goal was. Something very common is getting jealous of somebody that doesn’t even have your own goal which means that you’ll never get where they are. So, you should first get your ideas straight and then look up to other people.
Money
Google.
If you are working on something that is giving you money. Keep on betting on your project, invest what you are earning. This, will help the growth of the project which will also make you happy in the end.
Priorities
Google.
At this point I guess you are probably aware of my fanaticism with lists. So here I am, proposing that you make a list of priorities. Why this is important? Well, it will definitely help you achieve one task at a time. when your head is thinking of everything at the same time, results are worst. You should separate things by the priority they have.
