There are some movies that we will never forget. Disney classics that makes us travel through time helping us remember our childhood. Dance movies that made us sing and dance while watching them. Comedies that even though we know each of the jokes, makes us laugh every time we watch them.
Making a movie can be a very expensive project – the cast, the crew, the effects, the sets, the props, there are many things. Sometimes, film studios take gambles and invest crazy amounts of money. Sometimes these movies are HUGE hits and the gamble pays off, sometimes they movies tank and the losses are great. Here, we are going to show you some of the most expensive movies of all times.
Titanic
Google.
Who didn’t watch this one? I mean, anyone can remember this part of the movie and almost everyone of us cried at the end of it. One of the most popular movies in the whole world, in my opinion of course.
Google.
What you probably didn’t know is that it is also one of the most expensive movies of all times. James Cameron, its director, spent $200 million USD in its production. Do you remember all those extras and big shots of the whole thing sinking? Something that we will never forget. Each shot was definitely necessary, and while the gamble was very high it paid off.
King Kong
Google.
This movie, when it was originally released, featured many cool and new effects and techniques that hadn't been used a lot before. I mean, the special effects, Kong itself and the rest of the production were all new things for our eyes.
Google.
$207 million USD was the cost of production. I couldn’t believe this was true! However, when I think of it, it definitely makes sense. I mean, its director Peter Jackson thought of shots with the empire state building so over six Empire State buildings had to be constructed!
Avatar
Google.
James Cameron once again! Just think of it. This director had to teach each of the actors a whole new language to communicate, he invented a whole new different world, painted a lot of bodies with blue paint leaving behind the fact that he used the latest technology and special effects.
Google.
They took it to a whole new level reaching a cost of production of $237 million USD. Thinking of each of the things this movie had to spend money with, it makes sense. However, do you think it was worth it? Even though it had the best screenwriters etc.? In my opinion, it definitely was worth the price. However, I know many people didn’t enjoy it as much as I did.
Spectre
Google.
It’s one of the 007’s films. Of course the production had to be top notch... with all those high-speed chase scenes, action shots, and just the overall glamour of James Bond a huge budget was needed.
Google.
This movie has a cost of production of $245 million USD. A lot, right? Sometimes we can’t even imagine how expensive could a 1 hour and a half movie cost, right?
Avengers
Google.
Fantastic movies can’t be cheap. Drone shots, costumes big Hollywood actors and actresses, out of this world special effects. All these things add up and make a production expensive!
Google.
This movie had a cost of production of $250 million USD. Each drone camera was $1000 USD each. With these things, how could it ever be a cheap production? While they spent a ton of money, they also made a LOT of money at the box office so it's all good.
Spider Man 3
Google.
Another Marvel production. What did you expect. They didn’t have to invent a whole new world like James Cameron did in Avatar. However, remember that spider man has super powers. Lots of ropes…
Google.
With a $258 million USD cost of production. Spider Man 3 was not the best spider man movie for me... or the public in general. While it did have an okay time at the box office, the numbers they were expecting were not met.
Tangled
Google.
Yes, we know it's an animated movie.... and while there are no physical sets, they still have a big cost of production.... and it’s mostly because of the time of production. Some of the biggest animated titles take a VERY long time to make. And time is money!
Google.
$260 million USD was the cost of production of this movie. If you think this move took more than five years to be made, it doesn't sound that bad.
John Carter
Google.
The most ridiculous cost of production of all times. Because of problems of post-production, they had to repeat many of the scences twice. Which made the budget go up!
Google.
This movie had a cost of production of $263 million USD... the problem? It was a total tank, and it made Disney lose something like $200 million USD.
Waterworld
Google.
This movie required aerial filming with helicopters and seaplanes. The person who was in charge of controlling the set depending on the weather conditions was a big failure! Three hurricanes sank the entire set!
Google.
This movie had a cost of production $271 million USD. Definitely not worth it. critics were not the best. This apocalyptic movie was something like a big money waste.
Pirates of the Caribbean on stranger tides
Google.
Well another movie with lots of special effects. Not to mention that Johnny Depp is in it. only him costed something around $55,000,000.
Google.
Rob Marshall, its director decided to spend 24,812,500 kohl eye pencils at $16 USD a pop. The whole cost of production was $397 million USD. OMG, did you imagine this while watching the movie? I personally did not I would never imagine that this movie had a bigger cost of production than Marvel productions.
